Well..we'll sure remember April 4th for a while as the day we learned alot about what our truck and trailer can't do. We had to take our rig to the service center to get several things done. First thing we did was start unhooking things and such two days before we knew we'd need to leave. Hooked up to the trailer and took a little playing around with the air bags on the hitch to get them where we thought they needed to be. Got all hooked up and were ready for 6:00 a.m to leave. Linda got behind the wheel of the truck and started to ease out. Bang !! The trailer pulled out of the hitch and dropped onto the bed of the truck. Wow...that made a nice dimple in it (didn't feel so bad when later on the service center said, "Oh we see that all the time". So I jacked the trailer back up and we started again. This time I realized that what we had done before had started the locking pin into position but didn't set it all the way. A pull on the handle showed us that...Lesson learned !! Bertha got her one and hopefully only dimple..
Linda did an awesome job towing the rig to the shop. We left work early to pick it up when it was done so we wouldn't have so much traffic to fight coming home. Got back to the campground and Linda couldn't get the trailer lined up to back into the site. I told her I'd try so I pulled up into the adjacent lot and tried to get a straight shot so I could come straight back into the site. Things seemed to be progressing until I stopped and sat there for a minute....then it must have settled in cause it was stuck !! Wasn't gonna move for nothing...sat there spinning in the wet grass. Had rained the night before and the clay was like grease...After a neighbor tried to pull us out with his 4 wheel drive truck and then a farm tractor hooked onto him and onto us....we looked like a convoy of equipment headed nowhere...if it wasn't so frustrating it would have been funny..after watching this circus make their attempts I said, I think it's time to call AAA. Called them and they came, they conquered and our good neighbor backed it into our space...By this time is was 7:30 and I was tired, cold and hungry. Was happy to get our house put back together and get settled in. Like Dorothy said, "There's no place like home."
